Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are fixed oral appliances used to improve your smile. They’re thin porcelain layerings bonded over your natural teeth to enhance the appearance of your smile. They help address aesthetic concerns, such as:

  • Cracks
  • Chips
  • Gaps in your smile
  • Discoloration
  • Crooked teeth

Porcelain, the material veneers are typically made from, is extremely sturdy and can be made to closely resemble the shade of your natural teeth.

How do veneers work?

Each set of Vital Veneers the Vivian Rose Kunstmann, DDS, the team provides are custom-made to fit snugly and provide you with the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Getting veneers typically requires at least in-office two visits.

At your first visit, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth used to make your veneers. Then, those impressions are sent off to an outside lab that custom-produces your new veneers according to Dr. Kunstmann’s specifications. It takes about one to two weeks to finish your veneers. Once your veneers are ready, you come back in for a follow-up visit to have your veneers placed.

When you come back in, your dentist bonds your veneers onto your teeth using a special dental adhesive. In some cases, your provider may need to file down your teeth slightly to make sufficient room for your veneers.

What are the benefits of veneers?

With Vital Veneers, your new smile will provide you with a noticeable boost in self-confidence. You can continue eating and drinking the foods you like without worrying about damage to your veneers. The porcelain material is durable enough to function like healthy, natural teeth.

How long do veneers last?

With proper care, there’s no reason your new veneers can’t last you 7-10 years, if not more. Make sure to floss and brush your teeth regularly, essentially treating them like you would natural teeth.

Also, it’s important to maintain regular visits with Dr. Kunstmann so the team can monitor wear and tear and make any necessary adjustments over time.
